So long, Farewell....

{Farmhouse Dresser circa 1930s. Yes, I was in a hurry and took the picture in front of the garage!}

My first real furniture purchase for the store has a new home at Bradley's. It was like saying goodbye to an old friend. She has sat with me for awhile now because I had to get the courage to part ways with her. I have had several people inquire about her and I always said "No." I knew she could go to a good place where she could shine! And now she will be.

This lovely farmhouse dresser will be on display at Bradley's Christmas open house and available for purchase. She is finished in the lovely Paris Grey with a Graphite top and Old White accents on trim. Arles interior. Wax washed in Old White over the Graphite top and clear wax and dark wax on the body. Paris Grey and Arles are a beautiful combination. Original brass hardware and rolling casters. Circa 1930s.

So if you want to check out this one of kind beauty, go to Bradley's November 4th. Joy, the owner, puts on an amazing Christmas open house that can't be beat. She has some wonderful displays, fun gifts and amazing chocolate. See you there!

Customer Feature: Provence Chalk Paint Chair

{Provence and Clear Wax=Beautiful!}

Last week I received a nice email from a customer, Jennifer. She was kind enough to share her recent chair makeover in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. She made her plain chair fabulous by using Provence and recovering the seat in some pretty fabric. Read the details here. Thanks for sharing your project Jennifer!

I love getting emails from customers and seeing what you have created. Please pass them along to me at shopbpm@comcast.net. Happy Painting!

Time Flies When You Are Having Fun!

{Left: Caleb and I blow out the candle this year. Right: 9 months old at my birthday dinner}

I had to share these photos because my, oh my, how things change in a year! I dug up my birthday photo from last year to see how different Caleb was. It's funny because the situation is the same in both photos. It's a couple days before my actual birthday and my whole family is together eating. Sweet memories....

Fall Festival Time!

I love this time of year and all the fun festivals. Last weekend, I went to the Clinch River Antique Festival in Clinton, Tennessee. This festival gets better and bigger every year. I purchased some large, beautiful 1930s frames that will be painted with ASCP, a Lufkin ruler and a bunch of original Shiny Brite ornaments. I think they will look great with my Cody Foster houses I put out every year for Christmas on my mantle (btw, the new Cody Foster should arrive next week and we will start unpacking the items for the store).

{Close up of some of my new Shiny Brites.}

Next week, I go to my FAVORITE festival of all... The Country Living Fair South! It is a three day festival and I have already been circling the agenda with what I want to go to. Cari Cucksey of Cash and Cari will be there speaking and have a booth as well. Of course, there are lots and lots of vendors I can't wait to see as well. Earth Angels Toys will be featuring several artists and I know I want to check out Sugarboo Designs by Rebecca Puig. This year I am making a list of what I need to look for because I see so many things, it gets a little overwhelming! Here are a few pics from last year:

I can't wait to spend the weekend with the my mom and sister! It will be a fun weekend with lots of memories.

Frames: The Details

After a magical anniversary in Disney World, I am back to being a busy bee again. New Annie Sloan Chalk Paint colors arrived, Cody Foster is coming in this week and I have some lovely treasures just waiting on me to paint them. I have a 1930s farmhouse dresser almost finished and it is my favorite thing so far I have ever painted. My Mom and new business partner, gave me the color suggestions. I can't wait to share. For all those anxiously awaiting workshop dates, that is coming soon too I promise! I wanted to make sure I had all the training I could possibly have done before taking on training others.

Last week, I posted about some frames I did for Bradley's . It is my favorite technique I call "Chateau" that my trainer Barb taught during one of her workshops. It will also be a technique I will teach in my workshops. I used Provence, Primer Red, Old White and Chateau Grey for colors. I also used clear wax, dark wax and Liberon gilding cream in Chantilly as well.

Here is the secret...The super fancy frame with all of the ornate looking carvings is plastic! You would never know it was plastic until it is flipped over and you can see the back. If you paint plastic, I do recommend you use a plastic primer for it to give it the best adhesion. I used Krylon Plastic Spray primer from the hardware store. It goes a long ways too. I used it on two good sized urns and the frame and I still have plenty left. After it was dry, I began painting and the ASCP was on for good. I also used the dark wax to age the linen on one frame and it gave it an extra special look as well.

On a side note, I want to say a special thanks to my sister who counted my inventory this week and took in some things to the store. I couldn't have done it without her! So thanks, Kristen!

{Frame detail: Looks like a beautiful wood frame with patina.}

{The Backside: It's really plastic!}
